The world is a much smaller place than it seems, and by connecting small abstract ideas we as a society might understand bigger abstract ideas -like god, making a massive impact. For example, observing design history and standards like the women’s bathroom being on the left, cleaning or organizing on vacation, or taking a different route could have a huge impact on your emotional quality of life, the way you treat or care for others and family, or just your daily motivation. Much knowledge has been lost over time or kept in secrecy. Don’t get me wrong, I think there are some things that need to be kept that way in order for a human to function daily. IE, you don’t want to see the sanitization of sewage in China on a daily basis. However, if that is your work – your impact is HUGE in the world. I’m not a huge fan, but Bill Gates did drink shit water right off the sanitization machine he had built before anyone else did.
Humans don’t seem to understand how to communicate with the matter they interact with daily. When I set my mat down in a studio to do yoga, does the mat make a sign or a thud? Does it matter? Yes. Like watching a dancer, each viewer will interpret differently. Why is it that our only true definite understanding of each other is through quantifiable language? For example, why can’t I feel the number three? Why was I taught that three objects is the meaning of three? Why can’t I feel geometry as an equation rather than as a visual expression? I think you can. Have you ever driven a car at 100 miles per hour with your eyes closed? No? Are you sure? You have ridden on a plane, right? Did you sleep on it?
